Stremio for the courses already sitting on your disk.
Stremio gave streaming one clean front end instead of a browser full of tabs. Then you download a course, and it is straight back to a file manager sorted by name, guessing which video you stopped on.
Ckourse is that front end for the courses you already own. Open the app, press play, and it resumes the exact frame you left — lesson 41 of 214, nineteen percent through, no hunting.

A player knows about a file. That's the problem.
Stremio is built around discovering something to watch. A course is the opposite situation: you already have it, and the hard part is getting through it.
Order is the whole thing
A course is a sequence. Sorting 214 files alphabetically puts lesson 10 before lesson 2, and there is no addon that turns a folder tree into the order the author actually intended.
Resume has to survive a week off
Ckourse saves progress per lesson to the second and reopens on the next unfinished one. The gap between sessions is where courses die, and this is what closes it.
Nothing to be connected to
No catalogues, no addons, no account, no sync service. Your files, your progress and your notes stay on your machine, and the app works the same on a plane.
Stremio and Ckourse, side by side.
These barely overlap. Stremio for what you stream, Ckourse for what you have already downloaded.
| Stremio | Ckourse | |
|---|---|---|
| Built for | Finding something to watch and streaming it. | Finishing something you already downloaded. |
| Where the content comes from | Addons and catalogues, pulled over the network. | Folders already on your disk. Nothing is fetched. |
| Local files | Opens a file you hand it, one at a time. | Indexes a whole folder into an ordered course. |
| Knows what comes next | Within a series, yes. Across a course folder, no. | Opens on the next unfinished lesson, every time. |
| Progress | Per title or episode, synced to an optional account. | Per lesson to the second, plus a course completion figure. |
| Notes and bookmarks | Not part of the model. | Timestamped, saved against the lesson. |
| Offline | The player runs, but the catalogues it is built around do not. | Fully offline. There is no server to be offline from. |
| Account | Optional, for syncing your library across devices. | None. No sign-up, and no sync across devices either. |
| Discovering new content | Yes — this is the whole point of Stremio. | No. It only shows you files you already have. |
What Ckourse is not.
This page borrows Stremio's name for the shape of the idea, not the feature list. The differences are worth stating before you download anything.
- No addons, no catalogues, no search across the internet. It plays local files only.
- It does not stream to a TV or another device, and there is no mobile app.
- No account means no sync — your progress lives on the machine you watched on.
- It is not a general media player. Point it at a film library and it will try to read it as a course.
- macOS and Windows today. Linux is planned but not released.
What people ask before switching.
Can Stremio play my downloaded course videos?
It can open a local video file, but that is where it stops. Stremio is a discovery and streaming front-end built around addons and catalogues. It has no concept of a course, so it will not order 200 lessons into sections or tell you that you are 40 percent through.
How is Ckourse different from just opening files in a player?
A player knows about one file at a time. Ckourse knows about the course: which lesson comes next, which ones you have finished, where you stopped in the one you are on, and how much is left. You open the app and press play instead of hunting through folders for the file you were on.
Does Ckourse have addons or catalogues?
No. Ckourse does not stream, search or fetch anything. It plays video files that are already on your disk. If a course is not in a folder on your machine, Ckourse has nothing to show you.
Does Ckourse need an account or an internet connection?
Neither. There is no sign-up and no sync service. The app runs fully offline and stores progress, notes and bookmarks in a local database on your own disk. It only reaches the network to check GitHub for a newer release.
Can I use Stremio and Ckourse at the same time?
Yes. They do not overlap. Stremio for the things you stream, Ckourse for the course folders you already downloaded and want to actually finish.
Which platforms does Ckourse run on?
macOS as a universal build for Apple Silicon and Intel, and Windows on x64. Linux support is planned for a future release.
Stop losing your place. Start finishing courses.
The folder's not going anywhere. Might as well finish what you started.
